Treatment of stomatitis in young children is carried out by treating the affected areas with special medicinal compounds, the choice of which is carried out in accordance with the etiology of the disease. Lugol also has a mild analgesic effect, thanks to which the patient can drink and eat without problems on the 2-3rd day of treatment.
The remedy can prevent the manifestation of secondary infection and the progression of the disease to a chronic condition. All of the above results during therapy can be achieved by the components present in its composition:
- iodine – 0.01 kg;
- potassium iodide – 0.02 kg;
- glycerol – 0.94 kg.
Water is used as the base of the drug. There is very little of it in the product - only 0.03 mg per 100 ml of solution.
The limited number of ingredients significantly reduces the likelihood of an allergy to this remedy, and allows it to be used in the fight against stomatitis even in children.
The medicine is sold in 2 forms - solution and spray. The drug is sold in pharmacy chains:
- “Lugol with added glycerin” volume 25 ml;
- “Lugol 1%”, or 1.25% - 50 ml spray;

The maximum effect of using the drug for stomatitis is achieved if the affected areas are treated every 5-6 hours in a child, and every 3 hours in an adult. When applied, a burning sensation will be felt, the strength of which will decrease as the lesions drag on.
The drug has a specific odor due to the presence of iodine in it, and some people may develop a gag reflex during topical application of Lugol. Therefore, such patients are recommended to use the product in sprays.
The mucous membrane is irrigated with a spray 4-6 times a day at equal time intervals. To do this, point the nozzle at the affected area and press once.
Important! Iodine should not penetrate the respiratory tract and cause irritation; when spraying the drug, the patient needs to hold his breath.
