pharmachologic effect

Manufacturer: Angelini Francesco, Italy
Release form: spray, rinse solution, lozenges

Active ingredient: Benzydamine

Synonyms: Oralcept, Angidak, Asterisk ENT, Tenflex

Tantum Verde, by stabilizing cell membranes and suppressing the synthesis of prostaglandins, has a local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.

Benzidamine, which is part of Tantum Verde, exhibits an antiseptic effect against many microbes, quickly penetrating their cells and thereby disrupting metabolic processes.

In addition, the drug has a detrimental effect on fungi of the genus Candida, modifying the cell wall and preventing the reproduction of the fungal cell.

Tantum Verde is well absorbed by the mucous membrane and has a local effect; it is absorbed into the blood in small quantities and does not exhibit a systemic effect.

Comparison of the effectiveness of Tantum verdya and Oralcept

Tantum is believed to be more effective than Oralcept - this means that the ability of the drug substance to provide the maximum possible effect is different.
For example, if the therapeutic effect of Tantum is more pronounced, then with Oralcept it is impossible to achieve this effect even in large doses.

Also, the speed of therapy is an indicator of the speed of the therapeutic action; Tantum verdya and Oralcept are also different, as is bioavailability - the amount of a medicinal substance reaching the place of its action in the body. The higher the bioavailability, the less it will be lost during absorption and use by the body.

Indications for use Tantum Verde

Tantum Verde is used for various infectious inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, pharynx and other ENT organs:

  • stomatitis, glossitis, gingivitis;
  • tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis;
  • candidiasis of the oral mucosa;
  • inflammation of the salivary glands;
  • periodontal disease.

Tantum Verde is also used to relieve pain, inflammation and prevent infection after tooth extraction and after other surgical interventions and jaw injuries.

General information

In ENT practice and dentistry, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and antiseptics are used for treatment and prevention. The former primarily suppress tissue inflammation and relieve pain, while the latter have antimicrobial and disinfectant properties.

Orasept belongs to the group of antiseptics, and Tantum Verde belongs to the NSAIDs. Therefore, their effects on diseases will vary. What is special about these drugs? And which one and when to use?

Tantum Verde - instructions for use

Any form of Tantum Verde should be consumed after meals and after its use it is not recommended to drink or eat for 2-3 hours.

The spray is dosed in such a way that one injection contains 0.255 mg of Benzydamine. Based on this, the single dose varies depending on age:

  • for adults – 4–8 injections;
  • for children 6–12 years old – 4;
  • for children 3–6 years old – 1.

Such doses can be 2–6 times a day. The technique of using the spray is described in detail in the instructions for use of Tantum Verde. While irrigating the throat, you should hold your breath.

Tantum Verde rinse solution is used by adults and children from 12 years old, 15 ml 2-3 times a day, can be diluted with water 1:1. Be sure to spit out the solution after rinsing.

The tablets should be dissolved without chewing or swallowing for adults and children over 6 years of age. A child from 6 to 12 years of age must take the medicine under the supervision of an adult.

Despite the pleasant taste of the drug, under no circumstances should the recommended dose be increased. You should not take the drug for more than a week, if no cure has occurred during this time, you should consult a doctor.

What and when to take?

Both medications are recommended by doctors for the treatment of dental problems and inflammatory processes in the oral cavity. However, in some situations the recommendation will be different:

  • For severe pain in the throat, Tantum Verde is better for treating.
  • Oracept can be prescribed to a two-year-old child.
  • If a pregnant woman needs to be prescribed a remedy against inflammation of the throat, Tantum Verde is most often recommended in such situations.
  • Oracept will not be prescribed to a patient with serious kidney and liver problems.
  • Tantum Verde will not be prescribed to a patient with a high predisposition to the development of bronchial asthma and tachycardia.
  • Oracept copes better with sore throat (including purulent).
  • Tantum Verde copes better with fungal infections.

The choice of medication may be affected by hypersensitivity to the components of one of them. Oracept is also quite difficult to purchase - its availability in pharmacies is limited than Tantum Verde.

Orasept and Tantum Verde deserve trust for their medicinal qualities. But you should not use them constantly and without a doctor’s prescription in order to avoid negative effects and not provoke premature resistance of the body to the substances of these drugs. This is especially true for children who have not yet developed immunity.

Analogues of Tantum Verde

Tantum Verde can be replaced primarily with synonyms, that is, with medications containing Benzydamine, for example Oralcept or Angidac.
