Which implants are better: Korean or Israeli?

To compare them with each other, consider the characteristics and properties of both.

Alpha Bio

  • are cheaper than many analogues, which does not affect the quality;

Iterum

In Russia, the products of this manufacturer are little known. But in Israel there is a high demand for it. Dental implants from this Israeli brand are made from 100% titanium. Their rough surface is patented and based on SLA. It is characterized by high porosity and purity, obtained through a special treatment that is carried out after acid treatment. Iterum roots take root within 3 months and are not inferior in quality to premium ones. The brand's line includes cone-shaped implants and Implant Standart KIT, ultra-short Short Coniform Implant KIT and standard Coniform Implant KIT.

MIS implants: key characteristics

Any dental implants have several characteristics on which the quality of osseointegration (i.e., the quality of fusion of the implant with the bone) primarily depends. These include biological compatibility, surface features, as well as the shape of the implant and the nature of its thread. And here, in our opinion, MIS dental implants have both advantages and disadvantages.

Biocompatibility of MIS implants –

For their manufacture, class 23 titanium alloy is used - Ti-6Al-4V (titanium - 6-aluminum - 4-vanadium). This is one of the most popular titanium alloys in the world, which is most often used for the production of economy-class implants. And although on the one hand, aluminum and vanadium impurities make titanium even more durable, on the other hand they also have a small disadvantage - studies have shown that they slightly worsen the speed and quality of osseointegration of implants.

For example, most premium manufacturers of dental implants, as a rule, use more expensive commercially pure grade 4 titanium (G4Ti), which does not contain any impurities at all. For example, this grade of titanium is used by the world's most famous implant manufacturers - such as Staumann, NobelBiocare, AstraTech, and some others.

Chemical composition and other characteristics of MIS implants –

For the sake of objectivity, it is worth noting that MIS implants still have a very low amount of impurities (for example, significantly lower than AlphaBio implants). In addition, in studies conducted in 2010-2012, it was revealed that on the surface of MIS implants there were quite a large number of traces of contamination, which are formed with a cheaper option of sandblasting the surface. But in later studies in 2015, no traces of surface contamination by jet material were found. Thus, the quality has increased significantly in recent years.

Surface of MIS implants –

Until 2022, the surface of MIS implants was a conventional non-hydrophilic “SLA” type surface. As we said above, such a surface is obtained after sandblasting followed by acid etching. In general, the SLA surface provides a fairly good degree of osseointegration - approximately 25% higher compared to the previous generation RBM surface. In turn, the RBM surface is obtained using only sandblasting.

But it must be said that with the modern development of implantology, an SLA-type surface can already be called a thing of the past century. Today, the fastest and highest-quality osseointegration of implants can be achieved by negatively charged SLA surfaces, which, due to the negative charge, acquire increased hydrophilic properties. Such a surface provides an even greater speed and degree of osseointegration, and also behaves much better when implanted in an area with insufficient bone volume (i.e., when one-stage bone grafting is necessary).

Such ultra-hydrophilic surfaces are present, for example, in premium segment implants - these include Straumann, NobelBiocare, AstraTech, and also in Korean Osstem implants. So, in 2022, MIS began producing some of its implants with a similar ultra-hydrophilic surface, which was called “B+”. It consists of the same SLA surface, which is coated on the outside with a thin molecular layer of multiphosphonates (negatively charged phosphorus-containing molecules).

Thanks to these negatively charged phosphonate molecules, the surface will gain 2 benefits. Firstly, it will become more hydrophilic. Secondly, it becomes active, because multiphosphonates containing large amounts of phosphorus will stimulate osteogenesis directly on the surface of the implant. It must be said that the “B+” surface is somewhat similar to the Ti-Unite® surface of NobelBiocare implants (the latter is also coated with phosphorus ions and is hydrophilic). Today, MIS implants of the “Seven”, “C1” and “V3” series are produced with the “B+” surface.

Why is increased hydrophilicity important?

It allows fibrin threads to quickly attach to the implant, which speeds up the process of bone matrix formation on the surface of the implant.
First of all, this is important for those - 1) who plan immediate and early loading of the implant, 2) who use a one-stage surgical implantation technique, 3) in patients at risk, for example, smokers, osteoporosis and diabetes. If your doctor does not plan early loading on the implant and is going to use a two-stage implantation technique, if there is no lack of bone tissue in the implantation area, and you do not suffer from a number of diseases, then using an implant with an ultra-hydrophilic surface is not important.

M.I.S.

The manufacturer has been operating since 1995. It is its materials that Israeli patients prefer to AlfaBio products. The titanium alloy in MIS dental roots is the same in composition, but contains fewer impurities. That is, the dentures take root better. In 2022, the company presented the phosphorus-containing “B+” surface. With it, implants take root in the bone in a maximum of 3 months.

Models of artificial dental roots from MIS:

  • The V3 is the company's top of the line, with a triangular neck. Significantly reduces pressure on the bone. Provides aesthetics and reduces tissue atrophy.
  • Seven - suitable for immediate implantation and insertion of a full-fledged prosthesis with 4 roots. Self-tapping universal.
  • C1 - cone-shaped. Available with clearly visible carvings. Maintains stability in soft bone tissue.
  • M4 is a self-tapping Israeli implant in the shape of a cylinder. Reduces tension in bones.
  • Mini implants are implanted into a small bone.

Features of Korean implants

Korea released its product to the dental implantology market later than Israel. But today this country is considered one of the leaders in the production of budget and mid-price implants. The most popular brands are Osstem, Anyridge, Dentium, Implantium.

Advantages of Korean implants:

  • Hypoallergenic material. Most models are made from pure titanium alloy. The impurity content in it does not exceed 1%.
  • High survival rates. Osseointegration (fusion of the artificial root with bone tissue) is successful in 98–99% of cases.
  • Reduced risk of complications after implantation. Implants made of pure titanium “take root” better.

Some Korean manufacturers offer a special technology for drilling the implant bed, as well as an improved type of coating that accelerates osseointegration.

Adin

In Russia, the manufacturer is not as popular as in Israel and the Middle East. It produces standard economy-class dentures. Some brand roots can be installed as part of a complete denture with up to 6 implants. Adin offers models of unusual shapes:

  • Touareg - cone-shaped, with paired threads. Used for dental prosthetics after their removal. On the neck with micro rings.
  • Touareg-S - implanted with a closed sinus lift.
