Care and storage
There is nothing difficult about caring for an electric toothbrush. After brushing your teeth, the attachment must be thoroughly rinsed under running water; Once every 1–2 weeks, you can use an antibacterial rinse as a preventative measure. For the same purpose, the handle should be wiped from time to time with a sponge soaked in antiseptic and wiped dry.
Many attachments have special bristles that become discolored over time, signaling that it is time to change the attachment. The nozzle is changed with the same regularity as a regular manual brush - once every 3 months or immediately after an infectious disease.
Brushes are stored in a vertical position, on an open and ventilated surface. Cases and caps are intended for transportation only; brushes cannot be stored in them permanently. The brush must be well dried so that the bristles do not create an environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi.
If you have a shared bathroom, the brush should be stored in a cabinet, since when the water is flushed, an aerosol cloud with bacteria and tiny particles of human waste products rises above the toilet. Its size reaches 2 meters.
Terms of use
The first thing the owner of this type of toothbrush should know is that they don’t brush their teeth like they usually do.
- Under no circumstances should it make translational movements along the surface of the teeth.
- When brushing, you need to stop the nozzle on the surface of each tooth for 3-5 seconds so that it only gently touches its surface. After this, you can begin brushing the next tooth.
- You can choose the order of brushing your teeth yourself. At the same time, it is necessary to remember one important piece of advice that manufacturers give to their customers - do not put pressure on the tooth and hold the brush on it for too long.
Teeth brushing technique
Brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush is much easier than with a manual toothbrush because it does half the work for you. The bristles need to be moistened with water and a pea-sized amount of paste applied to it, as on a regular brush. Mentally divide your jaw into four sectors - each should take at least 30 seconds to cleanse.
And then the differences begin. There is no need to make sweeping movements - just move the brush smoothly from tooth to tooth.
If you have a brush with a round attachment , the bristles should cover one tooth completely from different sides. Clean the outer surface of the tooth first, then move to the inner surface and finish with chewing. Apply gentle pressure from above to clean between teeth. Pause on each tooth for 3-4 seconds.
If you have a brush with an oval attachment , place it at an angle of 45° to the surface of the teeth. The brush head should cover 2 teeth. Smoothly move it along the dentition, first on the outer, then on the inner and chewing surface.
The bristles should touch not only the teeth, but also the gums. Many brushes are equipped with a pressure sensor - if yours does not, be careful not to press too hard on the brush and injure your gums.
Effective cleansing with an electric toothbrush
Among Philips products, the Sonicare Diamond Clean electric toothbrush is considered one of the best. Manufacturers have worked not only on the elegant design of the device, but also on its functionality: the toothbrush can work in five different modes, which provide effective and gentle cleansing, polishing, whitening and gum care. Manufacturers promise lightening by several tones with regular use of the innovative brush.
The Sonicare Diamond Clean kit includes two removable heads of different sizes, two chargers: a glass with a charging base and a travel case with a USB connector, as well as a USB cord for connecting to a laptop and a USB power adapter. Also in the box you will find several instructions that not only explain how to use the brush, but also contain a list of contraindications. For example, the device should not be used by people with implanted devices such as a pacemaker or those who have recently had oral surgery. You should also wash the brush head especially carefully after using paste with abrasive substances, as they can damage the mechanism of the device.
After Philips provided me with their product to test, I looked forward to every brushing procedure, as I was pleased to walk into the bathroom and see such a beautiful and high-tech device standing on my shelf in a special cup that acts as a charger . But, despite my great desire, due to the increased sensitivity of my teeth, I could not constantly use all the functions of the brush. Therefore, for everyday use, I decided to use the delicate cleaning option (it is indicated by the Sensitive button on the device panel). The creators of the brush allotted two minutes for this cleaning mode, which, at first, was sorely lacking for me, since I was used to brushing my teeth a little longer. However, after several days of use, I finally learned to stick to the allotted time for cleaning and was convinced that the brush was able to completely remove plaque even in two minutes.
As a result, after a week of use, even though I used a regular and not a whitening regimen, the yellow plaque that covered the teeth at the gum line disappeared, the interdental spaces cleared, and the teeth actually became somewhat lighter. As for other modes, I didn’t really like the “Whitening” option, since the strong vibrations coming from the brush irritated my teeth and gums. I can say the same about the Polish function, but the Gum care option impressed me: during its use, the brush head pleasantly massages the gums and improves blood circulation, thereby strengthening them. I also discovered another unusual way to use Sonicare Diamond Clear: if you put a little water in your mouth and turn on the device, the brush head will begin to spray it, thereby providing additional cleansing of the teeth and interdental spaces. As for the minuses, the only drawback of using the brush, in my opinion, was the not very pleasant vibrations that occurred when the back of the cleaning head and the teeth came into contact, but I quickly got used to these sensations, and they no longer caused me discomfort.
In my opinion, no toothbrush, even an electric one, can compare with the Sonicare Diamond Clear either in appearance or in its functionality, however, for people with increased tooth sensitivity, I would recommend using the device not every day, but at least three or four times in Week.
How to properly brush children's teeth?
A child can be introduced to an electric toothbrush from the age of 3 years. But up to 7, you should guide the brush and not let go of it while brushing. During this period, it is important to teach the child to spit the toothpaste and rinse his mouth.
The technique of brushing teeth in adults and children is no different - the only difference is that parents help children brush their teeth. Sit in a way that is comfortable for both of you: sit the child on your lap or stand behind him in front of the mirror. If your brush does not have a built-in two-minute timer, use a special application that will motivate and captivate the child (for example, some applications gradually open a picture of cartoon characters while brushing teeth).

How to charge the brush
A new brush must be charged to its full capacity - the full charging time is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions and can take up to 48 hours. Charging time depends on the battery capacity and other technical characteristics of the brush.
Many brushes have a charging indicator, which will help you understand the current state of the battery. If your brush has a nickel-metal hydride battery, you should charge it only after it is completely discharged. Brushes with lithium-ion batteries can be charged at any charge level.
When charging, the brush must be in a vertical position. It is best to charge the brush directly from the mains, without using intermediate devices such as a power bank or tablet - this is not only faster, but also safer.
Brushes for children
Today you can find on sale both ultrasonic and electric brushes that small children can use to care for their teeth. Typically, these brushes have handles shaped like toys. They are an ideal option for children, because they perceive this useful accessory as a toy and can spend a lot of time with it .
But you need to keep in mind that the child may be so absorbed in the game that he does not want to learn the much-needed hygiene procedure. Without understanding its essence, it will be difficult for a person to develop physical memory of the hand, since parents often take on the responsibility of brushing their children’s teeth. Not everyone is able to teach their children to use such a brush on their own. This is often hampered by the large weight of the product, as well as the presence of a power supply in its design.
Philips today offers a special type of dental care device - Philips sonicare For Kids electric brushes. This device is designed for young children and can easily help them learn how to care for their teeth.
What makes this brush unique is that it can be synced with educational apps on your smartphone or tablet. And then the boring oral care procedure turns into a very interesting game. Children themselves can choose the best option for setting up the device for more convenient and effective teeth cleaning. This is facilitated by the softness of the pile, which is not capable of injuring the gums and enamel.
The Philips sonicare toothbrush is also suitable for those consumers who intend to use it to care for braces. There is no need to worry that the product will harm them. Although experts still recommend using a regular electric brush. Ultrasonic methods in this regard do not seem to be the best solution, since they can destroy the base of the bracket.
Consumer Reviews
A person who needs to rush to work or school early in the morning has to carve out time in his schedule to brush his teeth, although this is not always possible. It is very difficult to carry out this mandatory procedure in the evening, when it is time to go to bed. After all, when you come home, you only have enough strength to walk to the bed and fall asleep. Thanks to the technical device in question, you can easily turn a boring procedure into a more enjoyable process. Knowing this, many people do not refuse this opportunity.
Most customers have found from personal experience that Philips electric and ultrasonic toothbrushes are much more effective than any traditional personal care product that many of us have used over the past years. Using electric brushes, you can thoroughly clean your teeth from plaque and make them whiter. It is noteworthy that a similar effect is achieved even without the use of special whitening compounds.
Electric toothbrushes allow you to save on toothpaste, as well as whitening and hygienic cleaning products and procedures, which are preferably carried out every three months in the dental office. Such dental care can reduce the likelihood of caries and destruction of tooth enamel due to cervical plaque that appears on it. This is one of the main reasons to visit dental clinics that are unloved by many less often.
Timer BrushPacer
The BrushPacer is a timer that reminds you to brush each area of your mouth by beeping and pausing the brush. Depending on the mode selected (see Brush Modes), the BrushPacer beeps will sound at different intervals throughout the cycle.
