Story

In January 1998, the Moscow Registration Chamber registered a non-state educational institution - educational. Shevchenko Oles Vyacheslavovich, candidate of medical sciences, became the director of the college. O.V. Shevchenko still heads the college and at the same time is the Vice-President of the Russian Dental Association.

In 1998, the college had one department - Nursing in Dentistry and an advanced training course for dentists. In 1998, our director took part in the Presidential Management Training Program “Management of the Dutch Health System”. As part of this program, he became acquainted with the training system for dental hygienists in Europe and the director of the School of Hygienists at the University of Amsterdam. This school is the leading one in Europe, and its director, Mrs. Marjoline Hovius, is the founder of the dental hygienist profession in Europe and the president of the International Association of Dental Hygienists (IFDH). Returning to Russia, O.V. Shevchenko, together with the head of the educational department, Dr. Vvedenskaya S.V. organized a refresher course for nurses on the prevention of dental diseases.

In 2001, college specialists were invited to the Board of the Russian Ministry of Health on the introduction of the specialty of dental hygienist. Active work of the founder of the hygienist profession in Russia, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Kuzmina E.M. and the Chief Dentist of Russia, Academician V.K. Leontyev, showing a film about our college and the hygienist specialty to members of the board resolved the issue of introducing the specialty. By order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation No. 33 dated 02/06/2001 “On the introduction of the specialty “Preventive Dentistry”, one of the most interesting and promising professions in modern dentistry was approved.

In 2001, a section “Association of Dental Hygienists” was organized within the structure of the Dental Association of Russia. The chairman of this section was O.V. Shevchenko. Mission of the Association of Dental Hygienists: “Reducing morbidity rates and improving the health of the population of Russia, by promoting the art and science of oral hygiene, preventing dental diseases, ensuring access to quality services by dental hygienists, preserving the honor and dignity of the profession, promoting and protecting the interests of all its members in Russia and abroad, propaganda and strengthening of the spiritual and moral foundations of a healthy lifestyle.”

Specialists of our college, in collaboration with the Association, organized conferences dedicated to the specialty of dental hygienist in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, Saratov, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Nizhnevartovsk, Perm, Chelyabinsk. About 3,000 specialists took part in these symposiums.

Competitions of professional skills among dental hygienists, organized in Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Perm, St. Petersburg, Moscow, identified leaders in the profession. The champions of Russia in the specialty were Irina Bestaeva, Natalya Ozeranskaya, Olga Reutova, Tatyana Chernoskutova, Ulyana Lenets. We organized practical training courses for hygienists at the Antonella Botticelli Training Center in Italy and the School of Hygienists in Jerusalem, at the School of Dental Hygienists at ASTA University in Amsterdam, which is a leader in the training of hygienists in Europe.

Our faculty have participated in the International Dental Hygienists' Convention (IFDH), the American Association of Dental Hygienists, and the International Week of Dental Hygiene for Faculty Colleges for Hygienists in Amsterdam. Our participation in the above conferences and contacts with foreign colleagues inspire us to introduce the most modern teaching methods.

Over the past period, the college has formed a team of highly qualified teachers, and of course this is the merit of the specialists heading the Academic Department. In 2005 - 2006, candidate of medical sciences, orthodontist Irina Nikolaevna Minaeva was the head of the educational process and introduced a section on the prevention of dentoalveolar anomalies into the curriculum.

From 2006 to the present, the head of the College’s Academic Department is a talented organizer, Ph.D. Shevchenko Svetlana Sergeevna. The creation of a professional retraining program in the specialty of Preventive Dentistry and the opening of a phantom college class, the development of a modular competency-based training principle and a video analysis system for the quality of patient admission by students, the introduction of spiritual and moral foundations in teaching - these achievements are associated with her work. Svetlana Sergeevna’s individual approach and control of the educational process made it possible to improve the quality of education in our college.

In May 2010, Svetlana Sergeevna, under the guidance of Doctor of Medical Sciences Olga Georgievna Avraamova, defended her thesis at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Dentistry “The role of the dental hygienist in organizing programs for the prevention of dental diseases in organized children’s groups,” and in September she attended the IV Congress of Dental Hygienists of Russia elected Chairman of the Association of Dental Hygienists of Russia.
