Hematoma
Description
If there is a swollen lump on the gum filled with blood, most likely it is a hematoma. This tumor occurs as a result of an incorrectly removed tooth or injury. Such a lump on the gum above the tooth, as a rule, does not hurt.
Treatment
Dissolves on its own. But if the lump hurts, consult your dentist for advice. The doctor will prescribe painkillers.
Complications of tooth abscess
We want to set you up for the positive. If inflammation is treated in time, pathologies will not arise. According to statistics, dental treatment for an abscess:
- in 95% of cases it guarantees complete recovery or stable remission (there are no symptoms, the disease stops progressing);
- only in 5%, despite treatment, a relapse (3%) or the development of a new disease (2%) is possible.
☝️ Even if the lump has disappeared on its own, dental treatment is necessary. The infection remains inside; it can migrate to other parts of the jaw or body.
If an abscess is left untreated, the following complications may occur:
- osteomyelitis - necrosis of bone tissue, pus affects the bone, destroying it;
- phlegmon - local inflammation spreads to the entire jaw (generalized);
- phlebitis - acute inflammation affects blood vessels, blood clots form, and the flow of blood to the site of infection becomes difficult;
- mediastitis - a purulent process in the apical part of the root damages the mucous membrane, exudate through the blood or lymph enters the mediastinum of the chest (risk of bleeding, damage to the arteries);
- sepsis - pathogenic microflora enters the blood, and then into the body, the functioning of organ systems is disrupted, and death is possible.
